8/28/16, 3:38:28 PM: Louise Pleming: I asked Ellen to write a few things for on her experience- this was her response.

The past few days has been some of the best days in my career thus far. Being able to rub shoulders with the best tennis players in the world is extremely exciting and gratifying. It puts the big picture of what tennis is all about into a better perspective. Whether that be the level of tennis, the level of professionalism or even just playing on the biggest stage in the world. New York has such an incredible vibe and buzz to it that seems unmatched by anywhere else I have travelled and played at before. Each and every day I’m learning the value of quality over quantity and how doing that extra 1% on and off the court makes the biggest difference in being able to propel my game to that next level. Overall I’m just extremely grateful for this opportunity I have been given and taking every moment to soak it all in and learn from the best.

My first grand slam singles debut was one I will remember forever. Being able to spend a week amongst the players I aspire to and dream of being was an incredible experience. I was fortunate enough to hit with a vast variety of players including the all time great Martina Navratilova! She was able to provide valuable tips and advice to help further my game in making that transition from amateur to pro. It’s opportunities like these that don’t come every day and are invaluable. Stepping out onto court 9 in front of the huge crowd to take on Shuai Zhang was an incredible moment. Although the result didn’t fall the way I had hoped and planned it was amazing to be able to play against such a high level player and learn some of the areas I need to improve if i want to be able to make it on the tour. I definitely take away many positives from this match and overall experience moving forward with my career. This trip has left me hungrier then ever to improve over the next year in order to give myself the best chance at being back here playing another main draw of a slam.
