Editors Note: We just heard that Bryan Fineberg found our tribute equal parts refreshing and raw. SEENA is already getting a group together to enjoy Arthur Ashe Kids Day from the BIG GRASS COURT in the sky. Yes Arthur is on one side and Sy is on the other….. the rest of the usuals are all there too. Gene Scott is grinning. All the women are flirting with him. Barbara WILLIAMS is having one on the rocks and Patsy Van Wyck Farrah still says don’t drink “Belly Wash” (Soda)

Seena Hamilton /Mrs. Fineberg – Also known As Dr.S.K. Fineberg’s wife or Sy’s wife & Bryan’s Mother. But all you really had to say was SEENA. Cause there was only one SEENA.

They broke the mold after her birth. I even met her lovely mother [she confirmed that] and sister and husband and son.

I played in that first Easterbowl in NYC. I attended more than half the Easterbowls in all states played and in all capacities.

SEENA. SEENA. SEENA. Oh, what a woman. What a brain. What a force of nature. A hurricane. A tornado. And sometimes a flood. SEENA could lose her famous temper so fast and drop every four letter word in the book in a blink.

Yes, the woman who started a guided children’s travel program called “Gulliver’s Travels” for Busy Business men’s kids in the sixties in Manhattan.

That’s why when SEENA got into tennis she had a lot of great corporate sponsorship money already ready. SEENA the chain smoker. The nail biter. The business woman. The woman that never took “NO” for a reply. That just inspired her to fight harder or find another way.

SEENA and Dr.Sy were regulars on NYC late night radio. They separately were frequent guests on the call in show of the famous “Long John Nebel”. The show was a Huge success. The subjects always varied from midnight till 2 AM ? It was “THE” show!

The ladies Rolodex had Rolodexes. And as others have mentioned her tournament that will turn fifty next year was in a league of its own.

Against all odds she always made it happen. She launched a lot of people in tennis. She had interns and volunteers and only one or two part time paid staff.

It was all SEENA working out of her stunning NYC apt. They had a great home that was also her office.

Over the years We played a lot of tennis. She was a lefty with lousy ugly strokes. But she was so crafty and funny. She would get out of breath fast she smoked at least a pack a day.

She would carry on like a baseball hit her if a tennis ball got her. She would grimace and fold over and lean on her racket. I can see it now.

The last time I saw SEENA was at the Easterbowl in her suite in the desert where the kids played mini golf. We were sitting having a cold beverage and she showed me photos of her beautiful granddaughter. As much as SEENA loved her EasterBowl she loved the gift Bryan gave her more.

And SEENA if you are in tennis heaven if the ball is on any part of the line it is GOOD!
