Wimbledon day 2
We left the “modern bespoke” hotel in which we stay fairly early – feeling very energized and ready for a walk we decided to head to Wimbledon walking. It was 35 minutes of great cardio. Walking in London is so different from back home – so much green and flowers in the yards. The houses have tons of character and it is amazing how small the car parking spaces are to each other.
My friend needed a ticket for the grounds today so she went to the official que. We had only heard horrible stories of waiting for hours and people setting up over night in tents but she just got in the que and in 35 minutes she was in. Apparently there are tents handing out complimentary Lavazza coffee and Robinson’s juice while in the line and you can play some tennis ball too. Your place in the que is saved because you receive a numbered voucher. Seems more than reasonable to me. Off to see some tennis…
Feliciano Lopez d. Rajeev Ram 7/6, 6/4, 6/4
This match was a great match to see first. The first set was intense very strong serves from both players. The grass seemed to let the ball fly – Feliciano just served harder and was able return more and ultimately took the game. For the second and third set Ram just seemed to be missing the same energy that he had in the first set. The crowed really loved cheering for Feliciano.
Caroline Garcia d. Cagla Buyukakcay 6/2, 6/3
Garcia is a great player and very fun to watch. She served well and strong in some points it seemed like her serve was almost as strong as the men’s serves. Buyukakcay just could not return her serves and multiple times when she made contact the ball was returned vary wide and ended in with spectators or in the court over. Garcia kept Buyukakcay running across the court by returning the serves effortlessly. One thing that we did notice, when Garcia seemed to get upset with herself she turned around and faced the green wall behind her and regained composure and re-focused.
Donald Young vs Leonardo Meyer 6/4, 0/2
Young seemed very focused in the first set. Playing smart and serving really well. Not giving points away and really moving to return Meyer’s returns in the rallies. Hopefully he continues to play a really good game and can take the second set and the match. This match was suspended due to the rain but we will be there to support our 10sBalls _com friend. The tennis fans seem to like his self mantra, “Come on D!”
The rain arrived at Wimbledon today. Most of the spectators rushed to the Wimbledon shops and to get drinks under center court and court 1. We, of course bought an official “Wimbledon super mini umbrella” for 12 GBP – got great use of it plus it will make a great semi-used souvenir for friend. The rain would ease up but not completely stop. The Wimbledon officials decided to cancel plays on all courts except Center Court.
As we are heading out for the day a friend, Mr. Champion (yes it is his proper surname) spotted us and called us over for a Wimbledon Pimms and a possible stroll up the hill to the local pub The Dog and Fox…
