– Murray became the first man to win five titles at the tournament, which was established in 1890.

– His previous titles came in 2009, ’11, ’13 and ’15.

– The Brit was 12/13 on net points. Milos Raonic finished just 22/42 on net points.

– Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert defended their doubles title against qualifiers Chris Guccione and Andre Sa.

– The final was Guccione and Sa’s second match of the day. They resumed their semi-final match with Frenchmen Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin at 3-3 after the match was suspended because of darkness on Saturday.

Congrats to @nicomahut and @pierrehuguesherbert on defending their #AegonChampionship title, 6-3 7-6(5) winners over #Guccione/#Sa! #ATP #tennis #Mahut #Herbert – Photo by @atpworldtour via Instagram.

Editors Note – the team of Chris Guccione the big lefty from Australia and Andre Sa were one of the last teams to make the cut into the tourney. Great week the two had!

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID

Murray: “To do it means a lot… It’s a tournament that obviously means a lot to me. It’s been my most successful tournament.

“I had no chances on his serve at all [in the first set]. I hadn’t created any break points. Then along came a few good returns and changed the match completely. When you have not been broken for a whole tournament and then you lose serve… it can throw you off a little bit. I capitalised on pretty much all the chances I had from there on in.

“When I needed to this week, I stepped up and played my best tennis.”

Raonic: “Normally, I’m pretty confident in a situation up a set and a break. There were two very close challenges there, maybe could make a difference or not, but I thought he played well. He stepped it up after that and came up with an incredible return on the first break point chance he had.”

Herbert: “We played a great first set. We missed a little bit of our chances in the beginning of the second. We kept it together and tried our best, and we are so happy to get through and win the title.”

Mahut: “We just stick together even when we have to go through bad times. We know each other pretty well.

“Also, we have a lot of confidence now from last year. We’ve won a lot of matches, and we know when it’s really, really difficult during the match, we are going to find a solution.”

That’s a wrap folks. Another great week at our favorite little “oasis” in the center of London. See you next year Dear April, David, Charlotte, Fraser, Fran
