ROLAND-GARROS 2016
Roland Garros Kids’ Day: Let the fun begin!
The Roland-Garros Kids’ Day charity event, which will be held tomorrow, Saturday 21 May ahead of the official Sunday start, has a number of surprises in store for spectators. As in previous years, most of the tournament’s biggest players will come out to play exhibition matches on the three main courts. Additionally, the public will be able to enjoy a wide range of special entertainment.
From 10.45am, the walkways around the stadium grounds will be in full-out celebration, with balloon twisting, an orchestra, magicians, face painting, a circus troupe and much, much more.
From 11am on Court No.6, fans can try out to be umpires and line judges for a match between tennis legends played at 5pm on Philippe-Chatrier Court and No.1 Court. This activity will be followed by the boys’ and girls’ finals for the Rendez-Vous à Roland-Garros operation in partnership with Longines, for which the qualification stages took place earlier this year in Brazil, China, India, Japan and South Korea. The winners will receive a wildcard for a spot in the main draw of the Boys’ and Girls’ Singles tournament.
The public will also be able to attend the “Captains Challenge” from 2pm on Philippe-Chatrier Court. For this activity, several athletes from different sports will form teams and challenge each other in fun sporting events.
Last but not least, visitors can settle in at the Place des Mousquetaires from 4.30pm to enjoy the open-air film “In the French” that will close out the day.
All profits from this charity event will be donated to two associations, Fête le Mur and Tennis en liberté, as well as French Tennis Federation (FFT) clubs that do educational, social and charity activities in disadvantaged neighbourhoods and work in the areas of disability and wellness through sport.
