Nominations announced for Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group and World Group II ties
The ITF has announced the official team nominations for the 2016 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group semifinals, and World Group and World Group II play-offs taking place on 16-17 April.
Three Fed Cup Zone Group events are also taking place in the week commencing 11 April: Asia/Oceania Zone Group II in Hua Hin, Thailand (11-15 April); Europe/Africa Zone Group II in Cairo, Egypt (13-16 April); and Europe/Africa Zone Group III in Ulcinj, Montenegro (11-16 April).
The four winners of the World Group Play-offs will qualify for the 2017 World Group, with the losers contesting 2017 World Group II. The draw for the 2017 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas will be held at the ITF AGM in Zagreb, Croatia on 20 June.
Live scoring will be available on the official Fed Cup website throughout the week. The English and Spanish websites will both feature a live blog, reports, photographs, audio interviews and live streaming. There will also be a fan zone showing the best social media content at www.fedcup.com/showyourcolours.
Fed Cup by BNP Paribas is the World Cup of Tennis. It is the largest annual international team competition in women’s sport, with 102 nations entered in 2016. The competition is 53 years old having been founded in 1963. The title sponsor is BNP Paribas, the Official Bank of Fed Cup. Editors Note: We could not ignore the irony of the Fed Cup being sponsored by Betway. Tennis needs betting. Practically every other sport allows it. In past decades Wimbledon had betting places right on site. As did the Australian Open last time I went in 1996.
