There is one sure thing about the Miami Open, the consistency of Novak Djokovic. On Tuesday Djokovic defeated Dominic Thiem of Austria, 6-3,6-4. And then on Wednesday night Novak defeated #7 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Roepublic, 6-3,6-3.

After winning Indian Wells, Djokovic shows no signs of letting up. His energy and success seem to feed on themselves and he appears to be getting stronger. The only potential kryptonite for this superhuman maybe the power of Nick Kyrgios.

There is a group of younger players headed by Dominic Thiem, Nick Kyrgios, Milos Raonic, David Goffin, Borna Coric, Alexander Zverev, Francis Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz who are going to challenge Djokovic, Federer, Nadal and Murray in the near future. Their talents have been on display this week on Key Biscayne. Djokovic was very complimentary of the young group.”It is exciting because tennis definitely needs the next generation of young players who are playing the way they do and challenging the best players in the world. It is a normal evolution in life that sooner or later the time will come for all of us, and then we need some new faces and players that are able to lead the tennis world in the future..”

On the women’s side Simone Halep, the 5th seed from Romania, was upset by Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland 4-6,6-2,6-3. Was Halep disappointed knowing that Serena had lost? “Not everything means Serena in tournaments. As you can see I didn’t lose to Serena today I lost to another player.”
