Tennis Channel will provide exclusive live coverage of the U.S. Davis Cup team’s first-round competition against Australia in Kooyong, Australia, this weekend, with the first match underway Thursday, March 3, at 7 p.m. ET. The United States and Australia, the most successful nations in Davis Cup competition, have a rivalry that dates back to 1905 and Australia is second only to the United States on the all-time list of the tournament’s champions. Highlighting the matchup, top-ranked American John Isner will face Australian star Nick Kyrgios. Although Isner holds a 2-0 record against Kyrgios, the pair have never faced each other in Davis Cup play. Rounding out the United States team is Jack Sock and considered to the greatest of all time, doubles brothers Bob and Mike Bryan.

The meeting will consist of two singles matches on Thursday, followed by the doubles match Friday, March 4, at 8 p.m. ET. Tennis Channel’s coverage concludes with the remaining singles play Saturday, March 5, at 7 p.m. ET. Each match is worth one point, with three victories enough to secure a trip to the July quarterfinals to play the winner of the Croatia and Belgium match.

Prior to the United States and Australia telecast, Tennis Channel will offer live look ins at other Davis Cup first-round competitions. World-whiparound coverage will include Britain-Japan play in Birmingham, Brittan; Belgium-Croatia competition in Liege, Belgium; and France-Canada action in Guadeloupe, France. The United States has faced Australia more times than any other country in Davis Cup play and holds a 25-20 advantage. The two countries’ rivalry dates back to 1905, when the United States defeated Australasia, a combined team from New Zealand and Australia, 5-0 in London. However, the most recent meeting between the two countries was during the 1999 Davis Cup quarterfinal, when Australia beat the United States 4-1 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The United States, which leads all nations in Davis Cup titles, has clinched the trophy on 32 occasions, the most recent in 2007.

The U.S. Davis Cup team is captained by Jim Courier, who as a player was on the 1999 team that lost to Australia. That Australian team featured now retired tennis star and current Davis Cup leader, Lleyton Hewitt.John Isner, the tallest player in U.S. Davis Cup history, at 6-foot-10, won his 10th career singles title at last year’s Atlanta Open and reached the fourth round at the Australian Open this year. Sock, who made his debut appearance for the U.S. Davis Cup team during the playoffs last year, enters this weekend’s competition after advancing to his third ATP singles final at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand. The Bryan twins hold the all-time Open Era record with 16 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles and captured an Olympic gold medal in doubles at the London games in 2012.

Australia, with 28 titles, is the second on the all-time list of Davis Cup champions, behind only the United States. This year’s team is captained by retired tennis star and former Davis Cup member Hewitt and features Bernard Tomic, Nick Kyrgios, Samuel Groth and John Peers.
