Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares stepped up their bid to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals on Tuesday when they defeated Colin Fleming and Andy Murray 6-2, 6-2 in the BNP Paribas Masters first round.
Peya and Soares, who arrive in Paris on the back of winning the Swiss Indoors Basel title (d. J. Murray-Peers), have 3,420 points in the Emirates ATP Race To London – just 35 points behind No. 8-placed Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea. One doubles team spot is left up for grabs at the season finale, to be held at The O2 in London from 15-22 November.
Bopanna and Mergea face Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in their first match. Colombians Cabal and Farah knocked out Feliciano Lopez and Max Mirnyi, 5-7, 7-6(4), 13-11, saving one match point at 9/10 in the Match Tie-break.
Dominic Inglot and Robert Lindstedt defeated Rafael Nadal and Leander Paes, playing with his 106th tour-level partner, 6-3, 6-4 in 62 minutes.
