Murray/Peers Halt Nestor’s Historic Bid

Third seeds win in straight sets in Basel

Daniel Nestor will have to wait another week to earn his 1000th tour-level win. The Canadian and his French partner Edouard Roger-Vasselin were defeated by reigning Wimbledon finalists Jamie Murray and John Peers 6-3, 6-4 in the Basel quarter-finals on Thursday. The 43-year-old Nestor has 998 doubles wins since turning pro in 1991.

In the semi-finals, the Brit and the Aussie will take on Dominic Inglot and Robert Lindstedt, who moved past Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Rafael Nadal’s doubles run in Basel alongside partner Marc Lopez was ended on Thursday at the hands of No. 2 seeds Jean-Julien Rojer/Horia Tecau. The Dutch-Romanian partnership saved both break points faced and eliminated the Spaniards 7-5, 7-6(5) in 94 minutes to advance to the semi-finals.

Seeds Fall In Valencia

No. 2 Lukasz Kubot/Leander Paes, the highest remaining seeds in the doubles draw, were eliminated in the quarter-final stage by Chris Guccione/Andre Sa 7-6(6), 6-4 in 96 minutes on Thursday. The unseeded pairing survived four set points in the first-set tie-break before converting on their first set point. In the second set, the teams exchanged breaks before Guccione/Sa broke through at 4-4 and served out the win at love.

In the semi-finals, the Australian-Brazilian duo will take on Americans Eric Butorac/Scott Lipsky, who downed Andre Begemann/Artem Sitak 6-4, 6-4 in 67 minutes.
