TENNIS CHANNEL TO PROVIDE WEEKLONG COVERAGE AS MARIA SHARAPOVA, OTHER TOP-RANKED PLAYERS BATTLE FOR YEAR-END CHAMPIONSHIP

More than 50 Live Hours Planned During Telecast for Prestigious BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore

Tennis Channel will provide live coverage of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore, the exclusive year-end tournament for the top-ranked singles players and doubles teams in women’s tennis. Other than the same-day delayed singles final, the network will have live coverage of every match at the prestigious competition as Maria Sharapova and other stars battle for the 2015 championship from October 24 to November 1.

In all, Tennis Channel expects to devote more than 50 live hours to this year’s BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore. This is the network’s eighth-consecutive year as the primary home of the entire women’s season-capping event, after having covered the doubles field from 2003-2007. The action gets underway Saturday, Oct. 24, at 11 p.m. ET, with live round-robin doubles play (a complete schedule is below). Fan-favorite Mary Carillo will lead the network’s on-air team, flanked by coach Paul Annacone (@paul_annacone) and Hall of Famer Lindsay Davenport (@LDavenport76). Davenport won the WTA Finals singles championship in 1999 and three consecutive doubles titles from 1996 to 1998.

“It’s always fun to see the players who’ve done the best throughout the long tennis season compete night after night for the championship at the end of the year,” said Davenport.

Part of Tennis Channel’s night-and-day-long blocks of BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore will be within its world-whiparound Center Court telecast, which will include live matches from the men’s tournament in Basel, Switzerland, with all-time greats Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The most exclusive event on the women’s tennis calendar, the year-end WTA Finals championship ranks just outside the four majors in terms of prestige. Only the top eight singles players and doubles teams qualify for the competition, based upon the amount of points they have earned throughout the season. The event rewards consistent, yearlong success and gives viewers a high-drama week of tennis matches with competitors who might just as commonly face each other during a final at the US Open or Wimbledon. Singles players are divided into groups of four, with each competitor playing every other woman in her group. The top two finishers in each group reach the semifinals and advance through a single-elimination tournament. This year the tournament’s doubles competition will use the same format as the singles.

In addition to five-time major singles champion Sharapova – who remains one of the largest fan draws in sports – three singles players have already qualified for this year’s championship: 2014 French Open finalist Simona Halep, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova and Wimbledon finalist Garbine Muguruza. As of today, Halep is the No. 1 singles seed, followed by Muguruza, Sharapova and Kvitova. Among the stars battling for the final five entries are US Open champion Flavia Pennetta, French Open finalist Lucie Safarova and 2012 Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska.

The BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore doubles field is more defined, with seven of the eight tickets already punched. US Open doubles champions Martina Hingis/Sania Mirza lead the pack, followed by Bethanie Mattek-Sands/Lucie Safarova, Casey Dellacqua/Yaroslava Shvedova, Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina, Timea Babos/Kristina Mladenovic, Caroline Garcia/Katarina Srebotnik and Chan Hao-Ching/Chan Yung-Jan.

Digital-subscription service Tennis Channel Plus will also feature extensive world-feed coverage of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore, with live and archived matches. Available to everyone in the United States regardless of whether or not they subscribe to the television network, the platform is available through the Tennis Channel Everywhere app or via website www.tennischanneleverywhere.com.
