VIKA AZARENKA SCORES DAY ONE WUHAN WIN, COMPLETE RESULTS AND ORDER OF PLAY

Two time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka opened her account at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open with a 62 76(4) win over American qualifier Lauren Davis on Sunday.

 

Azarenka will now play giant-killing Briton Johanna Konta, another qualifier, who knocked out 13th seed Andrea Petkovic with an impressive 64 75 upset victory.

 

Azarenka made her debut on the brand new 15,000-seater centre court in Wuhan on Sunday, which had been opened by Li Na and 2014 champion Petra Kvitova earlier in the day.

 

“I think the structure is pretty incredible here, you know, what they’ve done with the facilities. It’s really impressive,” said the Belarussian. “I think it’s a beautiful stadium. It feels really comfortable. I like it. I mean, it’s great that they have invested and came up with such an amazing facility here.”

 

Monday sees Ana Ivanovic, Maria Sharapova and recent US Open finalist Roberta Vinci all in action, plus much-anticipated first round matches between Venus Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska and Eugenie Bouchard versus Belinda Bencic.
