BRITISH-AUSTRALIAN TEAM OF JAMIE MURRAY AND JOHN PEERS ADVANCE INTO SEMI-FINALS AT US OPEN  |

Jamie Murray and John Peers downed No. 4 seeds Marcin Matkowski and Nenad Zimonjic 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) in the quarter-finals of the US Open on Tuesday. The Wimbledon finalists secured a spot in the semis in one hour and 50 minutes and improved upon their best showing at Flushing Meadows (quarter-finals 2013).

Murray/Peers lost serve at 3-4 in the first set and saw their opponents serve out the set a game later. The No. 8 seeds then raised their level on serve, and did not face a break point the rest of the way. They finished the match with seven aces.

“It was a great win for us today,” said Murray. “It was a high-level doubles match with both teams dominant on serve. We hustled a lot of balls in the tie-break and it paid off for us. Really looking forward to getting out on Arthur Ashe for the semis of the US Open!”

Murray/Peers are one win away from reaching their sixth tour-level final this season (2-3). Their lone hard-court title came in Brisbane, at the start of the year. In their next match, they will face the winners of Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey, or Leonardo Mayer and Joao Sousa.

In the other half of the draw, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut also clinched a semi-final spot. The Frenchmen defeated No. 3 seeds and 2015 Wimbledon champions Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau 7-6(5), 6-4. The No. 12 seeds struck 41 winners while making only 12 unforced errors in the 94-minute match. They will face Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea or Dominic Inglot and Robert Lindstedt.
