Only two former US Open doubles champions remain after Lleyton Hewitt fell in his final match in Flushing Meadows, losing with Sam Groth to Colin Fleming and Treat Huey 6-3, 6-4.

Hewitt – champion in 2000 alongside Max Mirnyi – was defeated by countryman Bernard Tomic in his last US Open singles match on Thursday and would bid farewell in front of a packed Court 11 crowd on Saturday. The Aussie’s defeat left 2013 titlist Radek Stepanek (w/Paes) and 2004 champ Daniel Nestor (w/Knowles) as the only former champions remaining in the field.

Teaming with Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Nestor topped Jeremy Chardy and Lukasz Kubot 6-2, 7-5. The duo are now 13-2 together during the North American summer hard-court season, including a run to the final at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Montreal and title a week later in Cincinnati. The ninth seeds will square off against sixth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea, who beat Marius Fyrstenberg and Santiago Gonzalez 6-3, 7-6(4).

Also winning on Saturday were Eric Butorac and Scott Lipsky, 6-4, 6-4 over Gilles Muller and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 winners over Lucas Pouille and Sergiy Stakhovsky and Nenad Zimonjic and Marcin Matkowski defeating Marco Cecchinato and Andreas Seppi 7-6(5), 7-5.
