The US Open men’s doubles field has been blown wide open, with all the seeds in action on Thursday falling in battle.

On a hot and humid day in Flushing Meadows, Colin Fleming and Treat Huey upset Italian fifth seeds Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini 6-1, 6-7(3), 7-6(6) in one hour and 57 minutes. The duo saved a match point in the decisive tie-break.

Philipp Oswald and Adil Shamasdin upset 10th seeds Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 11 minutes. The Austrian-Canadian pairing saved three of four break points and won 85 per cent of points on first serve. They next face Marcus Daniell and Jonathan Marray who survived a challenge from wild cards Taylor Fritz and Reilly Opelka. The New Zealand-British team needed nearly two hours to claim the win 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Taylor and Reilly had won the boys 18s in Kalamazoo to earn the Wildcard.

Leander Paes and Fernando Verdasco dispatched the German pairing of Florian Mayer and Frank Moser 6-2, 6-3 in 62 minutes. Paes and Verdasco saved all three break points they faced to set up a second-round meeting with Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey, who took out the top-seeded Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan on Wednesday.

No. 13 seeds Pablo Cuevas and David Marrero lost to Tommy Haas and Radek Stepanek. The German-Czech team fought for just under two hours to clinch the win 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and set up a battle against Thomaz Bellucci and Marcelo Demoliner.

Eric Butorac and Scott Lipsky ousted 16th seeds Feliciano Lopez and Max Mirnyi 7-6(4), 7-5 in one hour and 23 minutes. They saved the only break point they faced and will next meet Gilles Muller and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi.

The team of Mike and Bob Bryan, the winningest Doubles team in history, lost to Stevie Johnson and Sam Querrey in a match that saw a heap of Match Points. (The Bryans kind of temp lost their mojo.) The ads in NYC focus on them alot. And both brothers skipped playing in the mixed doubles this year.
