The Serbians ousted fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea 6-3, 5-7, 10-3 on Wednesday. Djokovic/ Tipsarevic await the winners of seventh seeds Jamie Murray/John Peers and Andy Murray/Leander Paes.
Rafael Nadal and his countryman Fernando Verdasco also advanced; the Spaniards upsetting eighth-seeded Frenchmen Nicolas Mahut and Pierre Hugues-Herbert 7-6(8), 6-7(2), 10-4 in one hour and 47 minutes. Top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan will open their Montreal campaign against Feliciano Lopez and Max Mirnyi. The Spanish/Belarusian tandem beat David Goffin and Dominic Thiem 6-3, 1-6, 10-8 in 57 minutes.
Two-time defending champions Alexander Peya of Austria and Bruno Soares of Brazil also joined the winners list with a 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Croatian Marin Cilic and Swede Robert Lindstedt.
