Top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan won their 108th ATP World Tour team title on Sunday at the Citi Open.

The Americans defeated second seeds and reigning Roland Garros champions Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in a rematch of their final at the Grand Slam on clay in Paris. The Bryans won 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the ATP World Tour 500-level crown in Washington, D.C.

“I think this tournament is really valuable for our confidence, our momentum going into this hard-court summer,” said Bob. “It was nice to get some revenge on a couple of teams we lost to over in Europe. That will help us going into these next three big tournaments and crescendos at the US Open in New York.

“It’s really special, any title, but especially D.C., where there’s so much history.”

The 37-year-old California natives did not face a break point and capitalised on three of their own five break point chances in the 55-minute match.

It was the Bryans sixth ATP World Tour doubles final of the year and their 160th overall (now 108-52). They add to their four other titles won this year, which include Delray Beach, the ATP World Tour Masters 1000-level tournaments in Miami and Monte-Carlo, and last week in Atlanta. For their win on Sunday, they split $101,310 in prize money and 500 Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings points.

The now four-time Washington champions also won in 2005 (d. Black/Ullyett), 2006 (d. Hanley/Ullyett) and 2007 (d. Erlich/A. Ram).

Dodig and Melo were appearing in their 10th tour-level team final (now 3-7 record) and third of the year (now 2-1). They captured their first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros (d. Bryans) and won the Acapulco crown (d. Fyrstenberg/Gonzalez). Individually, 30-year-old Dodig is now 3-9 in ATP World Tour doubles finals, while 31-year-old Melo is 15-18.

As runners-up, Dodig and Melo split $45,710 in prize money and 300 Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings points.
