ROGER FEDERER VISITS MALAWI FOR CHILDCARE CENTRE LAUNCH |

The Roger Federer Foundation has helped 215,000 children in seven countries as of 2015.

Roger Federer recently visited Malawi to launch the Lundu Model Community Based Childcare Centre and interact with the children and community members whose lives have been improved by the efforts of the Roger Federer Foundation.

The World No. 2 tweeted: “Excited to be visiting Malawi, the warm heart of Africa, for the first time with the Roger Federer Foundation”.

Federer’s foundation, of which he is the President, started a 10-year initiative in 2011 with Credit Suisse and Action Aid Malawi to provide high quality education in 80 model preschools and improve the existing standard of education in 400 smaller satellite preschools in six districts.

Currently, the program includes 50 model centres and 160 smaller satellite centres in six districts of the country, reaching out to a total of 34,000 children. The Basel native met with the Vice President of Malawi, Honorable Saulos Chilima, and other key government representatives for education on this recent trip to explore the fruits of his Foundation’s labours.

Federer posted on instagram: “Exciting to see the impact of the Roger Federer foundation’s early learning initiative here in Malawi”.

The Roger Federer Foundation is dedicated to education programs for children living in poverty in Africa and Switzerland. As of 2015, 15 programs were running in Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Switzerland, reaching 215,000 children. The foundation’s goal is to have one million children benefitting from the programs by 2018.
