WWF Ambassador supports training of sniffer dogs to crack down on poaching in Nepal
It’s no secret that Andy Murray is a self-confessed lover of dogs. But how would he get on with training six-week-old puppies?
In a fun short film from Wimbledon and WWF, Andy is put to the test with five cocker spaniel pups, on only their second outing in training to become sniffer dogs for the Metropolitan Police Service.
“We’ve brought a few new recruits for you to train for us,” says the Police Officer in charge.
Sitting on Wimbledon’s famous Hill, Murray is faced with the puppies chewing his fingers, shoe laces and running around him in circles, before settling on his favourite.
“I think this one’s ready,” Murray says. “He listens to me.”
As part of his role as a global ambassador for the WWF, Murray is supporting the training of sniffer dogs to crack down on poaching in Nepal, while the Metropolitan Police Service’s sniffer dogs play a valuable role at The Championships each year.
“Sniffer dogs do an incredible job whether it’s keeping us safe and secure here at Wimbledon, or fighting wildlife crime in Nepal,” said Murray. “WWF’s conservation work supports these dedicated and talented animals and trainers to help protect some of the most iconic, yet threatened, species on our planet. I’m really hoping that whilst I battle it out on the court this summer – people will join the battle to help fight the global problem of wildlife crime.”
Everyone can play their part in tackling the illegal wildlife trade. Find out more and donate at wwf.org.uk/andy.
