Tipsarevic, Kohlschreiber, Lajovic and Rosol score wins at The Boodles
Fan favourite and former top ten player Janko Tipsarevic made a winning return to Stoke Park on Tuesday when he defeated Lucas Pouille 2-6, 6-4 10-5 in a match tiebreaker on centre court.
Tipsarevic was delighted with his win and after the match sounded a confident note about his Wimbledon preparations. “I’ve done well at Wimbledon before, reached the round of 16 I think a couple of years, said Tipsarevic. “So I’m hoping that I’ll be healthy and fit and hoping to get a decent draw so I can progress deep.”
Kohlschreiber is known as a dangerous player on any surface and he too sounded happy with his grass-court form after defeating Dutch player Robin Haase 76(5) 67(4) 10-7. “I’m feeling healthy, strong actually. The results could be a little better, it’s not enough for my expectations, for what I want to achieve (but) I’m very happy on grass at the moment, I’ve played some good servers latel@’ and I handled them pretty good. Right now I’m feeling really great, I worked on my return so that’s a key factor on grass.”
Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Thanasi Kokkinakis but relished his first The Boodles experience and defeated big-serving John Isner in straight sets 63 64. However, Isner was still upbeat despite his defeat and is enjoying being back on grass: “I love it here, it the perfect place to prepare for Wimbledon. It’s been beautiful here in England so far, haven’t had too many rainy days so I’m enjoying myself.”
Despite losing to Lukas Rosol of Czech Republic in a third set match tie-break 46 16 10-6 Kevin Anderson still looked in excellent grass-court form. The big-serving South African was runner-up to Andy Murray at Queen’s last week looked at home on the immaculate grass centre court at Stoke Park. “That was a great week for me. I wouldn’t say grass was my favourite surface but there are lot of elements of my game that suit grass courts very well. It helps my serve in different ways. This week is just about staying fresh and building confidence ahead of Wimbledon.”
It wasn’t only tennis stars present today, Olympic Champion Victoria Pendleton visited The Boodles today to soak up the sunshine and atmosphere as well as trying out some Boodles diamonds.
