FREE ENTRY FOR FANS ON SATURDAY AS QUALIFYING BEGINS AT THE AEGON INTERNATIONAL EASTBOURNE

Top seeded Daria Gavrilova will take on Great Britain’s Laura Robson in the opening match on Court No.1 (scheduled for 1.30pm), in the first round of qualifying at the Aegon International on Saturday June 20, with free entry to Devonshire Park for Family Day and court seating available on a first come, first served basis.

An Eastbourne debutante, Gavrilova has been in impressive form in recent weeks, scoring a win over world No.7 Ana Ivanovic in the second round in Rome before falling to Maria Sharapova in the semi-finals. Her opponent Robson, a qualifying wildcard recipient, makes her return to competition after 17 months on the side-lines due to a left wrist injury. The 21-year-old Robson, who hasn’t played competitively since Australian Open 2014, said: “I am looking forward to making my return to the tour and I am excited to compete in front of the Eastbourne fans again.”

Play on Court No.2 begins at 11am on Saturday with world No.57 Julia Goerges (GER) taking on countrywoman Tatjana Maria, before No.4 seed Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (CRO) begins her seventh campaign at Devonshire Park facing Polona Hercog (SLO). Currently ranked No.54 in the world, Lucic-Baroni first played at Devonshire Park in 1999, where she achieved her best result to date, reaching the second round.

Third match on Court 2 sees the opening round qualifying clash between No.3 seed Bojana Jovanovski (SRB) who takes on Ajla Tomljanovic (CRO). Jovanovski enjoyed her best result at Eastbourne in 2011 when she qualified for the main draw and reached the second round.

Qualifying No.2 seed Monica Niculescu’s match against Timea Babos (HUN) wraps up the opening day’s qualifying action on Court No.2 at the Aegon International. Niculescu, from Romania, made a noteworthy start to her 2015 grass court season beating 2008 Aegon International champion Agnieszka Radwanska to reach the semifinals in Nottingham earlier this month.
