Gelato of the Day: Chocolate Fondente (velvety dark chocolate)

Really, there just aren’t many words that do justice to description of this flavor. It’s not a taste, it’s an experience. Let’s just say, when the chocolate dripped all over my face, I chose to lick the remains from around my mouth, rather than waste any of it by using a napkin. Yes, it’s that velvety and smooth.

Our Gelato Barista today is simply referred to as G-smooth (he loves rap music and carefully prepares smooth gelato for hungry travelers, with a charming smile–and if you’re lucky he’ll rap for you with a lovable Italian accent)…

Nutella Amaretto Cookie Gelato

Nutella Amaretto Cookie Gelato is another favorite of mine, here in beautiful Roma…playful and delicious, this flavor is sure to bring out the kiddo in any grumpy adult. (I actually tested this theory today, a particularly hot day in Roma, by treating a grumpy travel companion to a generous heaping scoop …the grumpy companion’s scowl transformed to a goofy, intoxicated grin in exactly 2.5 seconds post consumption of the Nutella Amaretto goodness. Highly recommended on a hot day in Roma. I wish I could give Roger mine.

Cannoli madness

Sicilia’s Street Food stand makes a yummy panini for the hungry spectators at the tournament & specializes in one of the most scrumptiously decadent cannoli’s I’ve tasted.

Imagine a homemade chocolate shell, filled with freshly whipped ricotta cheese and a generous heaping of pistachio crumble at each end…Just one bite and I felt my breath taken away for just a moment…and YES, I absolutely ate the entire cannoli and YES, I will absolutely be eating another tomorrow.

(Italians have a reputation for being fun…and it’s a correct reputation. The energy and passion and enthusiasm is contagious and the guys at Sicilia’s Street Food are cranking out cannoli batches at this tournament, like nobody’s business…
