Main draw play of the inaugural TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open kicked off on Monday in the cosmopolitan Turkish city.
Thomaz Bellucci fired six aces and broke on three of his seven opportunities to oust seventh seed Mikhail Youzhny 7-6(5), 6-3. The World No. 74 from Brazil levelled his FedEx ATP Head2Head record with the Russian at 3-3 after the 87-minute victory.
Bellucci awaits the winner of Denis Istomin and Benoit Paire in the second round.
Second seed Grigor Dimitrov will face Andrey Golubev in his Istanbul opener after the player from Kazakhstan beat wild card Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-1, 6-3 in 72 minutes to advance to the second round.
Doubles Seeds Advance
Second seeds Oliver Marach and Philipp Oswald moved into the second round after a 7-5, 7-5 win over Johan Brunstrom and Jonathan Erlich, while fourth seeds Mate Pavic and Michael Venus advanced after beating Sergey Betov and Andrey Kuznetsov 6-3, 6-4.
Radu Albot and Dusan Lajovic also advanced to the second round with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Turkish tandem Marsel Ilhan and Cem Ilkel.
