Roger Federer beats Jeremy Chardy in Monte Carlo 6-2,6-1 in under an hour. 54:44 minutes to be exact. That was a not a match anyone should have showed up late for … Today’s conditions were heavier than yesterday’s. Roger had five aces to Jeremy’s one. Jeremy had five double faults to Rogers one.

It’s all about scheduling strategy these days for Roger Federer, with the Swiss happy he skipped Miami in a tactical move and spent the three weeks after his Indian Wells final on a family ski holiday and in a training block with Austrian Dominic Thiem.

Federer added that he will play his pre-French Open run by ear, hinting that competing in Rome next month would be a late decision, with the Italian event possibly replaced by some private training if he feels the need.

“I want to do work that will be useful looking ahead of the French Open and Wimbledon. There are tough draws in all of these Masters 1000 events.

You need to find your way into the tournament quickly.”

The 17-time grand slam winner is ready to make his spring clay start in Monte Carlo. The second seed opens in the second round after a bye as the run-up to Roland Garros kicks off.

“We are onto clay for the first time in seven months after hardcourt. We’ll see, but so far, so good,” he said. “I’m feeling good about my game and my fitness. I think I did all the right things to prepare for the clay season.”

Monte Carlo is one of the few major tournaments that the Swiss has never won, finishing runner-up three times including last year against Stan Wawrinka.

But there are no regrets from the losing finalist. “I had some chances but Stan got better. I don’t think about that final a whole lot. It was very good for Stan, I played well throughout the tournament but got tired in the second set of the final. I was able to play well but in the end Stan was the better player.”

Maybe 2015 will be Rogers year. If he can serve over 75 percent first serves that’s going to win a lot of matches.
