We have to wonder if the first song at the wedding of Dunblane’s favourite son Andy Murray to girlfriend Kim Sears should have been “Four Seasons in One Day.” We had it ALL in Dunblane. Rain, hailstones, snow and that strange ball of flame in the sky that sometimes visits Scotland.
As guests arrived – yes no A-listers but instead close friends and family, including former British No. 1 Tim Henman, Judy Murray and his father Willie, the man of the moment arrived at the church with big brother Jamie.
Ah the crowds also had a treat with the dashing Ross Hutchins (another of Andy’s best men) but the biggest cheer was the fact that Murray chose to go with a traditional kilt. Now get your minds out of the gutter, people – we will not speculate if he was a “proper” Scotsman today!
For such an intensively private couple, this was a rare moment for others to help them enjoy the day, and while fans in Twitter were marginally peeved about the coverage, yet dying to see if Andy was in a kilt or what Kim’s wedding dress looked like, the fact of the matter was they both looked so excited about the day.
From the minute Murray got out the car with his brother he was smiling and waving to the crowds, Kim looked excited and happy, seeing the humour in the potential indignity to have her dress hoisted high while she broke the cathedral record for the 100m dash inside.
Coming out, the guests formed an honour guard and to be honest in this world with all manner of horrible things happening all the time (and need we have aby reminder of the awful events that initially put Dunblane on the map, for all the wrong reasons), it was nice to see them enjoy their day, share it with the town, and just generally look happy!
While we are on the subject, much has been muttered about the lack of fellow players (no, not just Tim) who are currently preparing for the first of the Masters Series in the dirt. Yet… this chick does not recall seeing Murray in Federer’s wedding photos, or for those of Mr Djokovic.
At least we can rest happy in the knowledge that Murray enjoys his food (we hope to god that does not include haggis – think cooked socks in gravy). Ice cream and donuts and his grandmother’s shortbread with the coffees.
Above all – congratulations to the bride and groom and we wish them all the happiness.
