DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. – CiCi Bellis, World No. 1 Junior and 15-year-old American, has made the qualifying draw of the 2015 Family Circle Cup, April 4 – 12 on Daniel Island.
Bellis, who rose to tennis fame at the 2014 US Open, is the youngest player in the field. This past August, she had the biggest win of her career when she defeated the 12th seeded Dominika Cibulkova, the Australian Open runner-up, in the first round of the US Open.
Bellis became the youngest woman to win at the U.S. Open since Anna Kournikova in 1996, and the youngest American to win at the U.S. Open since Mary Joe Fernandez in 1986.
She was also on the winning team of the Junior Fed Cup, helping USA capture its third title.
“We are thrilled to have CiCi here in Charleston for the first time,” said Eleanor Adam, Tournament Manager. “She is in the next generation of tennis stars, and we love fostering new talent at the Family Circle Cup.”
Recently Bellis made the third round of the Miami Open where she played World No. 1 Serena Williams.
The Family Circle Cup’s 56-player draw is made up of 43 direct entries into the tournament, five wild cards and eight qualifiers. View full main draw player field here: http://familycirclecup.com/players/field/.
