Have you ever wondered what the players eat during these big tournaments? Surely they don’t subsist on the same stadium food the rest of us consume, right? I mean, how could you possibly play 2-3 hours of intense hardcourt tennis in 90+ degree heat after eating a hotdog and fries?
Southern Belle was lucky enough to score entry into Player Dining and scope out the options inside.
First stop: Sushi! There are multiple chefs on duty throughout the day preparing a variety of fresh rolls, sushi, and sashimi, plus edamame and all the necessary accoutrements. Southern Belle felt compelled to sample the offerings and wasn’t disappointed!
Next in line is the pasta station. For those players (and their guests) who have chosen the Gluten-Free route a la Nole, Indian Wells Tennis Garden is happy to accommodate them. Diners are offered a choice of daily pastas, proteins, veggies, and sauces, then can watch as the chefs prepare their dish to order. Portions are gargantuan – Southern Belle had to take her leftovers in a doggie bag.
The carving station is next. The offerings change each day and range from roast beef to pork loin to roasted turkey. The meat is served alongside fresh veggies and a choice of brown or white rice. Again, the portions are huge, enough to satisfy the hungriest players.
Fresh Juice Bar serves up made-to-order smoothies, pressed juices, and Acai or Pitaya bowls with fruit and berries. Southern Belle has gotten hooked on Desert Delight date smoothies and is trying to figure out how to make them once she gets back home.
Lavazza has a coffee bar set up inside Player Dining, too, just in case anyone needs a jolt of caffeine.
Plus, there is a little fruit-and-yogurt bar and several packaged items like protein bars and cut fruit and veggies available for purchase.
Lots of healthy choices for your favorite players to eat – aren’t you relieved to know they’re eating so well?
