5 FUN THINGS (BESIDES WATCHING TENNIS) TO DO AT THE BNP PARIBAS OPEN BY SOUTHERN BELLE  |

Southern Belle spent her first day at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden scoping out all the fun things to do when you’re NOT watching the amazing tennis. Here are her Top 5 suggestions:

• Watch the players warming up and getting goofy on the grassy soccer field adjacent to the practice courts. You’ll see some pretty creative pre-match rituals and maybe learn a few things you can weave into your own workouts back at home. This is also the place to catch the players for autographs and photo opps as they leave the field and head into Player Dining and the locker room.

• Hang out in the stands by the practice courts. There’s an electronic board listing the practice schedule for the day, so you can see your fav guys and gals working on their groundies and serve returns in a less-formal environment.

• Catch Wayne Bryan’s (dad to doubles champs Bob & Mike Bryan) mid-day chats in the pavilion between Stadium 1 and 2 at 12:30. There are plenty of tables and chairs set up under the shade for you to eat your lunch while interacting with one of the great personalities in tennis. He’ll have a different guest each day so be sure to check him out!

• Visit the vendors. There are some really cool ones on site this year including PlaySight, Bolle, and CuteTennisStuff.com among others. You can learn about the latest tennis fashion, equipment, and technology and also do a little shopping. You know you need to take home some souvenirs for the kids!

• Eat (and drink)! Besides Nobu – last year’s amazing addition to Stadium 2 – there are many delicious food and drink choices around the grounds. You can sip champagne or beer at the Moet & Chandon and Michelob ULTRA booths or try a Rumchata for something a little different. Chop House and Piero’s Pizzavino offer great dining options. If you’re just looking for something quick, there are several kiosks around the grounds selling more typical stadium-type food and soft drinks. Whichever one you choose, be sure to keep drinking plenty of water throughout your day – Southern Belle warns that getting parched and dehydrated is no fun!
