Australian Open Semifinalist Becomes First Commit For 2015

World No. 20, rising American star and Australian Open semifinalist Madison Keys has committed to play the 2015 Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies, a WTA event that is part of the Emirates Airline US Open Series to be held August 21-29, 2015 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, it was announced today by Tournament Director Anne Worcester.

The 19-year-old Keys got off to a blazing start in 2015, defeating two-time Connecticut Open Champion Petra Kvitova and four-time Tournament Champion Venus Williams en route to a semifinals appearance at the Australian Open. Only weeks shy of her 20th birthday, the young American already boasts a WTA ranking inside the top-20, establishing herself as one of the Rising Stars in the WTA. Keys will make her first appearance in New Haven later this summer, and is coached by 2005 Connecticut Open Champion and former World No. 1 Lindsay Davenport, who played in the Elm City nine times in her career.

“I am very excited to play in the Connecticut Open for the first time, and look forward to being in New Haven,” said Keys. “I have heard wonderful things about the tournament from my coach, Lindsay Davenport and believe the event provides me with a terrific opportunity to hone my game before the US Open. I hope to have great fan support, and will do my best to take home the trophy.”

Keys has rapidly ascended the rankings over the past two years, climbing more than 80 spots since the start of 2013. This past year, the hard-serving Illinois native won her first WTA title at Eastbourne (UK), and also reached the semifinals at Sydney and Strasbourg, France.

“The Connecticut Open has always been a place where fans can expect to see the most talented young stars in the world of tennis, and none are hotter than Madison Keys right now,” said Worcester. “Madison’s talent and charisma were on full display the last two weeks at the Australian Open, and we believe she represents the immediate future of women’s tennis. Her graceful power, fluid game, and maturity are a winning combination which positions her for a

very successful season and career. We can’t wait to have her – and Lindsay – here in New Haven this August.”
