She’s got it – Venus rising is a sight for sore eyes
This Global chick won’t lie, we really thought it was time for the Martina Navratilova-powered Agnieszka Radwanska to shine. Her time to make another assault on a Slam final had been and gone, and come back again.

But nothing could give us more pleasure that seeing Venus close out a quarter-final spot Down Under. After all the illness and injury woes, fans had hopes of seeing her close out her career with dignity but the pushing and the endurance was all worth it as she advances to the quarter-finals and very possibly a bout with kid sister Serena. Who by the way was utterly hilarious watching on and getting ever so uppity with the “Challenge, why dontya” routine.
We accept the Williams sisters can polarise fans but, tish and tosh, they’ve been at it for years now. They’re no flash in the pan, and yet they still get the results. And they still draw in the fans.
You know what we love even more? The fact that her next opponent wanted to wear tennis dresses like Venus. Now she gets to fight the real one over the other side of the net. But here’s the thing. Madison Keys is a tennis darling in the making. Self-effacing and quietly determined, that girl can smack the living fluff off a poor tennis ball like nobody’s business.
We remember with Williams the elder hit the tennis scene (yes we ARE that old, move along… nothing to see here). We see a lot of Williams in Keys and though it may inevitably be seen as a changing of the guard, how exciting is it to see one of the most talented US teens alongside one of the trail blazers of the game?

Now we are getting to the business end of the proceedings except to see some real humdinger matches, and this is one of those rare matches where we could conceivably root for either player.
Venus and Keys will play their quarter-final on Wednesday, while on Tuesday we can look forward to Rafael Nadal stepping things up quite considerable in week two, Andy Murray deflecting yet more questions about his underwear (or potential lack thereof) for his wedding day and the battle of the ice-queens.
.
Huzzah for Week Two of the Australian Open!
