Indian tennis fans might have been thrilled to have Roger Federer onside at the weekend for IPTL play in Delhi, but that doesn’t mean they were happy with sky-high ticket prices for rather poor seating.
The Hindu newspaper detailed complaints from disappointed ticketholders who paid the big rupees to watch the tennis action. But despite shelling out the equivalent of around $750 for the weekend, patrons lamented that their seats were located high up in the stands, hardly in what could be considered VIP territory.
One patron who has attended Wimbledon and paid nearly $475 for his IPTL tickets told the Press Trust of India: “I feel cheated with what I have got. I’ve traveled the world to see Roger play and with the money I spent here, I at least expected a seat on the court level. But as it turns out, I have been told to sit on the yellow colored seats which are not even cleaned properly and far away from the court.
”The high pricing is not a problem but it should be worth it. In the Dubai Championships where Federer plays, the on-court tickets are priced lower than what I am paying for the far away seats here.”
Besides the ticket controversy, the newspaper said that it did not appear that the elite seats in the arena was sold out for what was being billed as the showcase venue for the four-city IPTL exhibitions, which end later this week in Dubai.
10sballs.com EDITORS NOTES: We are so proud of Mahesh Bhupathi. We have known him since his first year on the ATP tour. He is a bright and dynamic guy. ( I should add handsome and charming ) He has made a miracle of a great event already. We encourage his efforts. He will iron out the situation. It was a fantastic event and production. Bravo Mahesh.
