Now we have had the first rounds, it will be time to get the calculators out, take shoes and socks off to work out all the possible permutations as the two winners and the two losers of the first two matches (still with me?) get to grips in round two.
First up for the adoring crowds will be Roger Federer who was dominant in his first round against Raonic, as he lines up against Kei Nishikori, who started a little like a bunny in the headlights against the mighty Andy Murray – who soon looked as grey as his shirt once Nishikori settled in to the task in hand.
Now things might not be quiet as rosy for the great Federer as Nishikori has a level head to head against him, and is still quite an unpredictable force to be reckoned with.
Both will relish a distinct lack of elements (the ferocious air conditioning seems to be limited to the press area where everyone is wrapped up like eskimos) and with the ball becoming quite lively as the stadium heats up, count on Nishikori’s nippy footwork around the court to test the old man out a little. If anyone in this group is going to push Federer, it will be Nishikori and it would not be a shock to see this edge to three sets.
Meanwhile it will be the turn of the two first round losers to battle, and here you have to feel for the hapless Brit. He has a losing record over Raonic, and needs to not only get the win, but to win it well.
Even if you take into account his Herculean effort to get here it came at the expense of three grinding finals, so if Murray’s returning skills are just the teensiest bit off, and he ends up have to stay toe-to-toe with Raonic, in a group where the games and sets may be key, it is perhaps a task to far for the Brit.
