THE WOMEN’S PRO CLASSIC, ONE MATCH AWAY FROM WINNING

THE 2015 AUSTRALIAN OPEN WILD CARD CHALLENGE

2015 Australian Open Wild Card Challenge Winner Down to Irina Falconi & Jennifer Brady

CAPTIVA, FLORIDA – On Friday, at the South Seas Island Resort Women’s Pro Classic $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit Event (http://ssirproclassic.com/), several Americans were back in action in their Quarterfinal matches today including Jennifer Brady, Louisa Chirico and Sachia Vickery. First on at 10:00 a.m., was Jennifer Brady taking on Canadian player Gabriela Dabrowski who she beat in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.

In the other singles matches of the day, American Louisa Chirico lost in three close sets to Edina Gallovits-Hall 6-4, 2-6, 4-6 ending her run in the Australian Open Wild Card Challenge while Sachia Vickery was topped by qualifier Tatjana Maria of Germany in straight sets.

“Today’s matches were extremely tough and high quality tennis from all of our players in the quarterfinals,” said Nick Blackwood, Tournament Director of the Women’s Pro Classic. “It is exciting to see Jennifer Brady one match win away from securing the Australian Open Wild Card and we look forward to another great day of tennis at the South Seas Island Resort on Friday for the Semifinals.”

This year’s Women’s Pro Classic will be the last stop on the 2014 USTA Pro Circuit Women’s Calendar and the finale of the 2015 Australian Open Wild Card Challenge showcasing highly competitive tennis

From the game’s emerging and future tennis stars on the WTA Tour. A new series being put on this year by the USTA Pro Circuit, the Australian Open Wildcard Challenge is designed to award the best performing player during the last three $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit Events in 2014 with a spot in the Singles Main Draw of the 2015 Australian Open.

With the latest WTA Tour rankings being released this week, Grace Min is now ranked No. 103 in the world with Irina Falconi ranked No. 114 which means that both players are approaching the cut-off for direct entry into the Australian Open without having to win the Australian Open Wild Card Challenge. After today’s Quarterfinal matches at the Women’s Pro Classic, Jennifer Brady is one match win away from securing enough points in the Australian Open Wild Card Challenge (currently being led by Irina Falconi who fell in the Round of 16 at the Women’s Pro Classic) to win the 2015 Australian Open Singles Main Draw Wild Card.

In the Doubles Main Draw, American duo Asia Muhammad and Maria Sanchez (seeded #2) prevailed in their Semifinal match on Friday defeating Irina Falconi and Petra Martic (seeded #3) in a third set super tiebreaker 10-7. In the other Doubles Semifinal match, top seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Anna Tatishvili also won in a third set deciding super tiebreaker 106.
