STATOIL MASTERS TENNIS – JAMIE MURRAY AND ROSS HUTCHINS TO STAR AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL

The 2007 Wimbledon mixed doubles Champion Jamie Murray, and former British Davis Cup player Ross Hutchins will team up in the doubles field at the Statoil Masters Tennis, the IMG-owned and staged event which will be held at the Royal Albert Hall from 3-7 December.

Murray has played in the event twice before, while Hutchins will be making his debut. Also appearing in the event will be John McEnroe, Tim Henman, Andy Roddick, Greg Rusedski, Pat Cash, Henri Leconte and Mansour Bahrami, among many others. Murray and Hutchins are already looking forward to it.

“I’ve played all over the world, but there’s nowhere on the Tour like the Royal Albert Hall,” said Murray. “It’s an incredible place and to share a court with so many great players is a pleasure and a privilege.”

Hutchins agreed. “I’ve watched this tournament for many years on television, and a couple of times in person, but to be able to play in it is a real thrill,” he said. “The spectators that come to watch love tennis just as much as we do, and I can’t wait for the event to begin.”

Murray joined forces with Jelena Jankovic to win the Wimbledon mixed doubles title and regularly features at the latter stages of ATP events with his partner John Peers. They are currently the 13th ranked doubles team in the world.

Hutchins retired from the sport last month after a career in which he and partner Colin Fleming reached the ATP World Tour Finals as the alternate team in 2012. Since then, Hutchins underwent chemotherapy treatment for Hodgkins lymphoma, returned to the ATP circuit after going into remission and served as the Aegon Championships Tournament Director in 2014. He was recently appointed Vice President Player Relations at the ATP.

As well as competing in the ATP Champions Tour event, Roddick, McEnroe and Henman will join Billie Jean King, Sir Elton John, Kim Clijsters and Sabine Lisicki for the Mylan World TeamTennis Smash Hits tennis charity event, which will be held in the evening session on finals day – Sunday December 7th. It is the first time that the event will be held outside the United States, and will raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
