Eugenie Bouchard and Maria Sharapova are among the early arrivals in Singapore as the inaugural edition of the WTA Championships gets underway next week in Asia.
Wimbledon finalist Bouchard provoked perhaps the most attention with a photo she posted relaxing by the 57th-level infinity pool at the five-star Marina Bay Sands, with the 20-year-old wearing pink aviators and all but busting out of her bikini top: “Obsessed with this pool & view,” read the caption from one of the fan favorites at the year-ender.
Bouchard arrived early in the city-state as she recovers from a thigh injury which forced her from last week’s Linz event after winning her opening match.
Sharapova, meanwhile, made a stopover at the Thai beach resort of Phuket, getting in a quick hit and speaking to aspiring young players at a local academy. The reigning glamour queen of the game will take the opportunity to debut her line of high-end Sugarpova candies his week at an upscale Singapore outlet on iconic Orchard road. The Russian also attended this week’s football friendly won by Brazil over Japan,
Sharapova tweeted her own picture, showing a workout in Singapore, where she will be competing in her seventh season wrap-up event. Others in the field should include Serena Williams (recovering from a knee injury in France), Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova and Simona Halep.
