Serena Williams took a record $4 million for winning the US Open, the biggest prize money check that has been given in tennis. Williams got $3 million for winning the US Open, and $1 million for winning the US Open series, with points given for how players perform in warm-up events.

That gives her more than $60 million in career prize money earnings, almost double any other WTA player.

Second is Maria Sharapova with $30,892,067, with Venus Williams at $30,122,776.

Williams has won 18 Grand Slam events, which give the largest amounts.

The amounts also reflect the increased prize money in women’s tennis. Both Steffi Graf, and Martina Navratilova, won more majors but have $21 million in career prize money.

Editors Note : we saw on social media that Serena celebrated her victory with Caro Wozniacki and their finals together all night long. They really are besties and had a great time together. When was the last time two finalists went out and celebrated together ? (of a slam?)
