Monaco neighbor Novak Djokovic will be more than prepared to offer moral support and encouragement to fellow pro Caroline Wozniacki as she prepares to run the New York marathon next month to benefit a children’s charity.
Djokovic, who beat Andy Murray to reach his eighth straight semi-final at the US Open, won’t however, be considering any a similar effort until after his tennis career is over. Wozniacki, who lives in a Monte Carlo high-rise close to the Serb’s base in the principality made sure he was one of the first to hear the news of her initiative.
“I heard that from her a month, month and a half ago. We had dinner, we live in Monaco, same place, so we have dinner sometimes,” said Djokovic. “She’s doing it for a very noble cause. And also it’s exciting. It’s something very fun.”
Djokovic said that while he uses transport to get to training sessions at home, he often sees his neighbor pounding the pavement. “She runs a lot, I see her always. I will take the car or a bike to the practice courts in Monaco and she would run.
“I would see her every morning running there and running back from the practice. She does it a lot and she feels great doing it, so why not? The marathon charity run is a great cause. I’m sure she’s going to enjoy it.
“I wish one day to do the same. Maybe not during my career. For sure I want to do with my brothers. Who knows? Maybe with my wife one day – but not for now.”
