America has some great tennis players. A whole heap of them. Some still in the juniors to all the way up to players in their mid thirties. Support from the “system ” barely exist…. and the strings that are attached are endless…. I’m just saying America really has an abundance of great players; but with no financial aid and/or support. Some recent examples the lack of support for Lester Cook, Kevin Kim, Abigail Spears just to name a few.
Tennis has it’s one percent. Than tennis has the, “I’m really close but it costs way too much to play in these events.” Parents are spending over 50 thousand dollars a year with their junior on the national/international level. The pros out of pocket costs are easily 100-200 thousand dollars a year. That’s not for coaches or trainers or physios . That’s for hotels. Airfare. Rental cars. Food – the basics only.
Some players still take housing with families. ie. Belgian, Ruben Bemelmans who played his way all over America with housing. Derrick Rostagno loved housing. So did Kent Kinnear. Ivan Lendl even met his wife and the mother of all of his girls while housing. Housing is great when the tourney is willing to organize it. Sorry. That covers a bit of PAT MAC.
Onto BIG Teflon Bro. “Is he serious?” He wants to do away with doubles? As a whole? As a separate circuit? Shame on him…
If the 2014 US Open didn’t have doubles. Guess what folks. There’d be one American left in the tournament! Serena Williams!
Here is the list of the Americans left in the US Open who are in some kind of doubles:
In Men Doubles:
Team
Tim Smyczek and Bradley Klahn – great doubles team!
Team
Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan – The Bryan bros have been awesome ambassadors and are going for their 100th title.
Team
Scott Lipsky and Rajeev Ram – great team to watch play!
Eric Butorac – great player and the current president of the ATP player board.
In Women Doubles:
