Federer Has No Plans To Retire In Near Future
Roger Federer has no plans for retirement in the next few years, with the world No. 3 father of four happy that his family still enjoys traveling the world for his tennis career.
The 17-time grand slam winner whose most recent outing was another Wimbledon final three weeks ago, hinted that retirement could be up to three to five years in the future as he completed an alpine holiday at home in Switzerland the family.
“If I slow down would be the end of my career? The answer is no,” the 32-year-old told Swiss website Sportal Sports. “For me, everything goes on. Clearly, the priorities with the four children have moved. But my wife likes traveling and the kids do not mind. I think that it is beneficial to them.”
He added: “But who knows what, three, five years is the right time? I would like to know myself when to retire. Everything depends on my physical and mental performance.”
Federer tweeted a zany selfie of himself on a ski lift, with the hashtag; #dontdropthephone. He and his brood – along with a presumed squadron of nannies to handle four children under the age of five – will head off this week to Toronto to start the pre-USA Open campaign at the Master 1000 in Canada.
Federer took the time to advise the website that his image as perfect person and gentleman is somewhat over-inflated. “It’s quite possible that people think I’m perfect, but I’m not – I also have my problems. I often sit in the nettles and learn from it. I am very proud to represent the tennis well. And I enjoy it, to do that. If I did not have this feeling, I would stop immediately.”
