World No. 7 Milos Raonic returned home to Toronto to throw the opening pitch at the Blue Jays vs. Red Sox baseball game at the Rogers Centre on Tuesday night. It wasn’t the classic opening throw, with Raonic instead serving a tennis ball to Mark Buehrle, a pitcher, who wore a catcher’s mask to stay safe.

“That was my first time doing the opening pitch for a baseball game so it was a great new experience for me,” said Raonic. “I was thankful the Blue Jays had me serve it instead of throw it. That was definitely more in my comfort zone, but for sure not for Buerhle, who had to catch it. We made sure he wore a catcher’s mask as I wasn’t going to take anything off of it for him… He’s a pro baseball player!”

Raonic then went up to the broadcast booth to chat with Blue Jays play-by-play and analyst broadcasters, Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler, for half an inning.

The Toronto native is due to return to action at next week’s Citi Open in Washington DC. It will be his first tournament since reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals (l. to Roger Federer).
