Frontier Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: FTR) proudly announces it’s a Platinum Sponsor of the Connecticut Open presented by United Technologies, to be held August 15-23, 2014 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, Tournament Director Anne Worcester announced today. The tournament is a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) event that is part of the U.S. Open Series.
“Adding Frontier Communications as a Platinum Sponsor for 2014 is fantastic news for the Connecticut Open and we look forward to growing the relationship for many years to come,” said Worcester. “Frontier’s leadership understood the importance of the tournament to Connecticut – especially the New Haven community – and wanted to play a significant role in supporting the event’s success.”
The Connecticut Open provides an excellent opportunity for the public to learn more about Frontier Communications, says Dan McCarthy, President and Chief Operating Officer. He noted, “Frontier’s corporate headquarters has been in Connecticut since 1946, but we will have a dramatically higher profile upon completion of our transaction to acquire AT&T’s wireline business and statewide fiber network that provides services to residential, commercial and wholesale customers in Connecticut. Frontier will also acquire AT&T’s U-verse video and satellite TV customers in Connecticut.”
McCarthy added, “AT&T has been very supportive of the tournament and Frontier is pleased to continue that tradition. Our meetings with community leaders in New Haven made clear the importance of the tournament to the city and to the many individuals and businesses that will be our future customers. The Connecticut Open offers Frontier a perfect occasion to introduce ourselves on a broad scale. We are a Connecticut company that is 100 percent U.S.-based, hires locally and believes in local engagement. Sponsorship of this critically important tournament is a great way to demonstrate that Frontier is an integral part of the community and the state.”
The tournament will provide Frontier with a forum to raise awareness of how individuals and businesses can support military veterans and reservists and programs that honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. According to Cecilia K. McKenney, Executive Vice President, HR and Administrative Services for Frontier, 11 percent of Frontier’s workforce comprise military veterans and reservists. “As a 2014 `Top 100’ Military Friendly Employer, we are active members of Joining Forces, the Employer Partnership of the Armed Forces, the Military Spouse Employment Partnership, The WorkPlace in Connecticut, Honor and Remember and other organizations. The tournament offers a wonderful arena to spread the word about the importance of hiring those who served our nation. At Frontier, we believe `they were there for us; it’s our turn to be here for them.’”
Daily tickets for the tournament are on sale now, and fans can look forward to seeing World No. 4 and 2014 Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova, World No. 7 and 2014 Wimbledon Finalist Genie Bouchard, Defending Champion and World No. 3 Simona Halep, and World No. 13 and four-time Connecticut Open Champion Caroline Wozniacki along with some of the best WTA players in the world. In addition, men’s tennis returns to New Haven as James Blake, Andy Roddick and Jim Courier, three of the best American tennis players in history, will participate in the first-ever Connecticut Open Legends event on Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22.
