A Heartfelt Apology to AnnElise Anderson and the Yakima Tennis Club
I owe a big apology to the Yakima Tennis Club and their tournament director, AnnElise Anderson. I wrote
“the only reason this event is here in Carson is it was going to be cancelled at its site up in the Pacific Northwest; the tournament basically folded”
That was very poor reporting on my part. Yakima gave up the tournament because of a fire that destroyed the clubhouse. Check this story out.
As a former tournament director, I know what a wrenching experience this had to be for AnnElise and the entire Yakima Tennis Club. They deserve congratulations on the way they have handled their recovery and gotten back on their feet after that disaster. They certainly didn’t need a poke in the eye from me saying they had dropped the ball. So please let me offer my sincerest apologies for in any way denigrating the great job they have done hosting this tournament in the past.
One thing that everyone should realize is we only have this tournament here for one year. It is definitely going back to Yakima next year. So this may very well be the last tournament in Los Angeles! Get out and enjoy it while you can. We need to show the powers that be that Los Angeles will support these events if we want to get any more of them!
