FORMER CHAMPION AND WORLD NO. 6 PETRA KVITOVA,

WORLD NO. 11 SARA ERRANI AND WORLD NO. 19 GENIE BOUCHARD

COMMIT TO 2014 NEW HAVEN OPEN

Trio Joins Defending Champion And World No. 4 Simona Halep As Early Commitments

Former New Haven Open Champion and World No. 6 Petra Kvitova, World No. 11 Sara Errani and World No. 19 Genie Bouchard have committed to play the New Haven Open at Yale, a WTA event that is part of the Emirates Airline US Open Series to be held August 15-23, 2014 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, it was announced today by Tournament Director Anne Worcester. The trio joins Defending Champion and World No. 4 Simona Halep as players who have committed to play in the 2014 New Haven Open.

World No. 6 Petra Kvitova breezed to the 2012 New Haven Open title without dropping a set, dispatching four top-20 players en route, and made a finals appearance in the 2013 edition. Highlighted by a semifinals appearance earlier this month in Madrid, along with quarterfinal showings in Doha and Miami, the Czech is having a solid 2014 season. In 2011 Kvitova won Wimbledon and the year-end WTA Championships, earning her “Player of the Year” accolades, and reached a career-high ranking of No. 2 in the world.

World No. 11 Sara Errani will be making her seventh appearance at the New Haven Open, reaching the semifinals in 2012. The Italian has seven career WTA singles titles and has reached the quarterfinals or better at three of the four Grand Slams, including finals and semifinals appearances at the 2012 and 2013 French Open, respectively, and a semifinal effort at the 2012 US Open. She is coming off her best event of the season last week in Rome where she reached the finals before falling to World No. 1 Serena Williams in front of her raucous hometown crowd. The Italian holds a career-high ranking of No. 5.

World No. 19 Genie Bouchard will make her first visit to New Haven and hopes to continue her stellar season. The 20-year-old Canadian got off to a fast start in 2014 with a semifinal appearance at the Australian Open, followed by a quarterfinal showing in Acapulco and semifinal displays in Charleston and Portugal. A blooming WTA star who is garnering global media attention, she has risen from winning the 2012 Wimbledon Junior Championship, to reaching her first Tour final at Osaka in 2013 and capturing the WTA Newcomer Of The Year award, to now being a legitimate contender at Grand Slams.

“Welcoming back former champion Petra Kvitova, Grand Slam finalist Sara Errani, and rapidly climbing young star Genie Bouchard gives the New Haven Open three of the top 12 and four of the top 20 players in the world together with defending champion Simona Halep,” said Worcester. “This will always be a tournament with a terrific mix of talent ranging from Grand Slam Champions like Kvitova, to rising stars like Bouchard and Simona Halep. We are quickly building a dynamic field that will also feature James Blake, Andy Roddick and Jim Courier and will surely entertain fans all week during the 2014 New Haven Open.”

Beyond a top-notch women’s field, fans will get to enjoy men’s tennis once again in New Haven as Fairfield native James Blake, a two-time New Haven Open Champion and former top-five ranked player, will take on two former World No. 1’s in Jim Courier and Andy Roddick. On Wednesday, August 20, Blake will matchup against Courier, and on Thursday, August 21, he will face-off against Roddick. Both matches will be played following the 7:00 p.m. WTA feature match on their respective nights, and they will be best of three sets, with a super tie-break played for the third set.

Ticket packages are on sale now, and provide fans up to a 27 percent discount. By purchasing any of the packages, fans can guarantee their ticket to see incredible WTA action and the Legends matches. Daily tickets will go on sale June 9 and only a limited number of daily tickets are available to see the men in action. In addition, fans can experience Legendary tennis on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings first hand by purchasing spots in the Pro-Am, which includes hitting time with the players, first class dining and open bar in the Courtside Club, and a meet and greet with the players. Another option is to purchase tables of six in the Courtside Club, which includes first class dining, open bar, and a meet and greet with players. Both packages provide fans with a box seat ticket to watch the matches following dinner.
