– Nicolas Almagro finishes as runner-up at River Oaks for the second year in a row. He’s the first player with consecutive finalist finishes at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship since Andy Roddick in 2003 (l. to Andre Agassi) and 2004 (l. to Tommy Haas).

– Verdasco is the first Spaniard to win the Clay Courts title since Marcel Granollers in 2008 (d. James Blake).

– Verdasco is the first left-handed player to win the Clay Courts since 1996 when Fernando Meligeni claimed the title.

– Verdasco is the first 30-year-old champion here since Juan Ignacio Chela in 2010. He is the fifth 30-year-old to win on the ATP circuit this season.

– Verdasco was the first player in both the singles and doubles final in Houston since Granollers did so in 2008. That year Granollers won the singles title and finished as runner-up in doubles (w/ Cuevas).

– With the win Sunday, Verdasco now owns a 7-3 advantage in his all-time matches against Almagro.

– This was the first U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship final to feature two players from the same country since 2003 when Andre Agassi defeated Andy Roddick.

– The 2015 Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship will be held April 6-12 at River Oaks Country Club.
