With the anticipation of Rafael Nadal’s run at a record ninth title, next month’s Barcelona Open will make sure that the world is watching when the king of clay steps back onto his surface at the hometown event.
Officials announced that they have arranged broadcast deals with 176 countries where all of part of play will be broadcast for the event which wraps up with a final on April 27. Commentators for the Spanish world feed with be former player Alex Corretja and Tomas Carbonell for Spain’s TVE and TV3.
The broadcast reach is expected to stretch as far as Europe, the US, South America, South Africa (Supersport), Oceania (ESPN International), South Asia (Fox Sports), and the Persian Gulf (Bein Sport) with an estimated audience of 325 million households.
Spanish home fans will get a particularly rich program, with the top three matches at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on offer. The event is already gearing up for another sell-out edition, with temporary stands currently being erected at the club in an upscale Barcelona neighborhood.
