Andy Murray has launched a home charm offensive for to boost his new venture into the hyper-competitive hospitality game as he prepares to open his luxury Scottish boutique hotel next month.
Murray had a message for delegates to an Edinburgh conference marking Scottish Tourism Week: “2014 will be a big year – not only will I defend my Wimbledon title, I have joined your industry and now champion your message, that tourism is everyone’s business, even tennis players’!
“2012 and 2013 were amazing years for me, winning gold at Wimbledon and then the slams in the US and at Wimbledon.
“But as an athlete, to stay at the top to be able to compete with the best, I know I can’t sit back and there is always more to be done and I am very aware that you, the professionals in tourism, apply the same approach.
“On April 1 my hotel, Cromlix House Hotel in Kinbuck near Dunblane, will open to the public and that’s me in your world and a fixture of the tourism industry in Scotland.”
The Surrey-based player who spends more time training in Miami than he ever spends in Scotland, said that the project is dear to his heart.
“I’m excited, my family are too. The hotel (a former stately home and hotel where his brother Jamie married in 2010) holds some special memories for us and the Dunblane community. I love Scotland, especially the people, the great food, the countryside and this new venture gives me the chance to do my bit to show off a bit of Scotland to the world.”
Cromlix House has been completely renovated with Murray money and will be professionally managed. It is already in the process of being sold out on name identification alone.
