Roger Federer says he is pleased with his new, larger racquet and is talking to Wilson this week about whether any small adjustments need to be made.
After a temporary switch to a 98-inch frame partway through last year, Federer went with another 98-inch version during the off-season and is now comfortable with it.
“I’m not really thinking of it, so that’s a major step in the right direction,” he said. “That’s the best you can ask for when you switch rackets.
“Then you hope that success follows. That’s happened
too,” said Federer, who has not lost before the semifinals this year.
“That’s why basically I had a meeting with Wilson this week looking to see if there is any small changes… or if that’s the way I’m going to keep it right now. So we’re just looking to what’s going to happen the next month or so.”
Apart from the short experimentation last year, this is Federer’s first racket switch since 2002. He has increased his tension about three pounds from the previous 22 pounds because of the larger head size.
“I’m really happy about how its playing, how it’s given me extra power, easier power, just easier to play with it day in and day out. And I think I have the spin necessary but have the control there too. “I must say overall I’m very happy,” he said. “And it’s exciting to play with a new racket after all these years.”
