BNP Paribas is the most generous sponsor in tennis today and has been a major backer of the sport since taking its first steps into tennis sponsorship in 1973 with the French Open at Roland Garros. The ongoing Masters 1000 series/ Premier level event is of course the BNP Paribas Open and now the French bank has announced it will continue as the title sponsor of the prestigious year-end WTA Championships following this year’s switch of venue to Singapore.
Under the terms of the agreement, BNP Paribas will once again be the official sponsor of the WTA Championships and receive global brand exposure through on-court signage, and international marketing and promotion across all WTA platforms, including broadcast, digital and social media channels.
“We are excited and extremely proud to once again name BNP Paribas as the title sponsor of our WTA Championships,” said Stacey Allaster, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the WTA.
“For more than 40 years, the BNP Paribas Group has promoted tennis in all its forms throughout the world. Our continued partnership with BNP Paribas is an example of the appeal women’s tennis holds among top global brands.
“With BNP Paribas on board, combined with all the new elements planned for this year’s tournament, I’m sure the 2014 BNP Paribas WTA Championships will be the best in the WTA’s history, offering unprecedented sports entertainment value.”
Pierre Veyres, Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas Singapore Branch and Regional Head for South East Asia added: “As a leading international financial institution in Asia Pacific and a long-time partner of tennis worldwide, we are excited to bring tennis to a whole new level with Singapore positioned as a world class sports hub.
“Our title sponsorship of the BNP Paribas WTA Championships reflects our continued commitment to the sports community across continents with the hope to connect this region to the rest of the tennis world. Asia Pacific is a region where the BNP Paribas Group has strong ambitions with Singapore being a key component of our plan. We are very pleased to associate our brand with such a prestigious event to build on the momentum.”
Event promoter, World Sport Group, expressed its thanks to BNP Paribas, with CEO Andrew Georgiou commenting: “We congratulate BNP Paribas for the continued acknowledgement of the value that sport delivers to their brand and their business through active partnership. Their presence at the WTA Championships in Singapore will add to the overall tournament experience for fans and players and the general public as part of a 10-day long sports and entertainment festival.”
The BNP Paribas WTA Championships will be staged at the state-of-the-art $1.3 billion Singapore Sports Hub from October 17-26, 2014 – the first time an Asia-Pacific city has played host. This year the event will be transformed into a 10-day sports entertainment experience of competition, exhibitions and activities for the fans of women’s tennis in Singapore and around the world.
