Rafael Nadal is set to add another client to his endorsement portfolio with the April 2 signing of a brand ambassador contract with Spain’s Banco Sabadell. The institution already has in informal link with the world No. 1, as title sponsor of the Barcelona ATP clay event where the 13-time grand slam winner has claimed trophies at eight of the last nine editions.

Nadal, starting a title defense this week at the Indian Wells Masters, will serve as head of an elite list of athletes under promotional contracts with the bank. Nadal will represent the image of the institution in the commercial and corporate worlds. The contract puts Nadal on level footing with Roger Federer, who represents Credit Suisse in a similar capacity.

“I’m delighted with this new project,” said Nadal. “Apart from the fact that it is a prestigious Spanish international bank, I fully identify with its values and with its constant support of sport, and specifically tennis, through sponsorship of the Barcelona Open Banco Sabadell – Trope Conde de Godó.”

Added bank chairman Josep Oliu: “We are very pleased to link the values of our brand to the positive attributes inherent in the personality and track record of Rafael Nadal, the greatest Spanish sportsman of all time. His charisma and the international prestige of his sporting achievements will contribute to enhancing our brand recognition throughout Spain and will undoubtedly boost our image internationally, particularly in the United States and Latin America, where he is revered.”

Nadal joins an endorsement team which also includes Latin sportsmen including Barcelona footballer Leo Messi and Pep Guardiola, coach of FC Bayern Munich. Also on board are footballers Carless Payola and Cess Fábregas and former footballers Luis Figo and Luis Enrique.
