The ‘Las Vegas Neon’ team appears to be out of World Team Tennis after a court order freezing the assets of its owner.
The team, which had previously operated as the Sacramento Capitals, announced last month that it would move to Las Vegas.
Shortly after, businessman Deepak Wannakuwatte was arrested by the FBI on money-laundering and fraud charges. A group of investors subsequently filed a lawsuit, having loaned him $2.3 million just days earlier.
Among the assets included in the temporary order was a Sacramento-based medical-supplies company. The investments were obtained through claims of $100 million in contracts to supply latex gloves — the actual amount was $25,000.
World TeamTennis has not made an official announcement about the team or a replacement.
